Eat, drink, relax!
The first things you notice as you enter this upmarket theme restaurant are the walls – richly adorned with epigrams on the drink for all seasons. The overarching presence of tea here becomes all the more evident when you examine the menu, more than half of which is dedicated only to it. And indeed, what better way to serve your delectable Earl Grey or Oolong than in a quaint teapot, along with your cup, on a tray? One does not, however, see the same level of presentation skills or taste in the cold teas, which do tend to be quite ordinary - much like those at its Bangalorean cousin, Infinitea. Where The Tea Centre scores substantially over Infinitea is in the quality and presentation of food. The Chhole Masala is exquisite, and the soft and accurately sized chapatis served in a bread basket just add to the class. Snacks like chicken nuggets and chicken lollypop are also adequate accompaniments with your tea, with just the right quantity of spice. For a slightly heavier continental meal, any of the pastas is recommended especially for the rich, creamy sauce. Most importantly, The Tea Centre is a place that is conducive to relaxation, as you spend a lazy afternoon with a book as you sip your tea. It is not too often that a steward tries to show you the door, and he usually keeps out of your way unless you ring the little bell placed on your table to attract his attention. Clearly, a veritable oasis, The Tea Centre, in the fast, busy, power-lunching city that is Mumbai.
