Quite a Circus!
Piccadilly’s positioning as a specialist in Persian and Lebanese cuisine is well in keeping with its location in Colaba, a popular hangout for tourists from the Middle-East. Unfortunately, the comfort ends once you enter the place, as a rather claustrophobic arrangement ensures that you do not enjoy at least your non-vegetarian portions to their fullest. In terms of the actual fare, the non-vegetarian platter is quite good with succulent pieces of both chicken and mutton kebabs cooked to the optimum. The biryani, in case you want to stick to Indian food, is also quite decent. On the more exotic front, however, one has to be disappointed. The cello kabab, for instance, is virtually inedible with the dry rice with the meat being almost impossible to swallow (Santoor at Cuffe Parade has sticky rice with the kebab which makes life a lot easier that way). The marinated chicken leg with rice also faces the same problem despite the beautifully cooked meat – the spices in the rice just don’t make it conducive to one’s throat. The only Lebanese item that can be enjoyed is the old favourite hummus with pita bread. In terms of service, the stewards are often slack, especially for fundamental things like water. The refusal to accept payment cards too can add to your woes as you have to fumble around for the right amount of cash even as the sweltering heat inside combined with the highly spicy stuff you have eaten makes you die for some fresh air outside. Overall, Piccadilly is one of those places which you should consider only for home delivery (they do deliver free in and around Colaba), and that too of food you are familiar with.
